Antix Studio was commissioned by the Science Museum in June 05 to build 13 models for zone 2 of the 'Science of Aliens Exhibition. ' Models made by Emma Sharman and Diggory Warren. Click on the images to see how they were made.

Fang Tooth Model The Fangtooth

All teeth. Main two teeth are so big they have special slots either side of its brain. Lives down to 5 km's. Temperature – near freezing. Found in many oceans around the world.

Vampire Squid Model The Vampire Squid

Jelly like & has sharp spines on the inside of its arms/underside. Largest eyes of any animal. Can draw arms over head and be ‘inside out’ for protection.

Giant Isopod model Giant Isopod

Sea-floor scavenger. Armour plated. Complex mouths that can tear up prey. Habitat - up to 2 km's deep all over the world.

Gulper Eel model The Gulper Eel

All mouth. Tiny teeth and a bag throat. Lures prey into its wide-open mouth with a light on its tail [can flash red]. Jaw hinges wide and can swallow an animal much larger than itself.

Sea Spider Pycnogonid (Sea Spider)

All legs. Marine arthropod. Because of their body plan, no respiratory system needed for gas exchange. Have digestive tracts in legs

Weedy SeaDragon Leafy Sea Dragon

A real specimen which has been dried, tweaked and mounted. Has ‘leaves’ all over its body allowing it to blend into its environment.

Common Ancestor not a vertebrate. Snail-like Lived in the sea, swimming by undulating its body .

Sea-floor scavenger Late cambrian oceans c .500m years ago.

Hallucigena Hallucigena

Shale creature taken from pieces of fossil stone with imprints of animal parts. Late cambrian oceans c.500m years ago.

Opabinia Opabinia

This rather strange shale creature is based on fossilised remains. From the late cambrian oceans c.500m years ago.

Green Tree Pincushion Green Tree Pincushion

. Can grow up to 5m tall. Found in granite and sandstone soils on the dry slopes of africa's northern cape peninsular. Seed dispersal by ants.

Venus Flytrap Venus Fly Trap

The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant that catches its prey , (mostly flies and spiders) by snapping its leaves closed. One of a small group of plants that are capable of rapid movement.

Stapelia Stapelia -

(Stapelia variegata). The genus Stapelia comprises of some 50 species of stem succulents. With unusual, large five-lobed flowers, which may be red, purple or yellow, often with interesting banded patterns. Most species produce a putrid odour of rotting carrion to attract blow flies as pollinators.
